WE’RE ALIVE!! 😅
It’s been a while - by a while, I mean a year. What happened? Where have we been? Why did we just drop off social media earth?! Well...

🌴 Our last episode & post left off with us in The Bahamas, where we spent many glorious, sand frolicking months. But there was a pattern. We were spending most of our time filming, and more time editing, that we weren’t being truly present. We were once asked “are you okay in there?” when we hadn’t emerged from our floating cocoon in days. What are we doing this for? Our sabbatical is now, experience it! We kept filming, but we stopped editing - and it was lovely!
⛵️ Situations changed and we ended up not sailing as far as planned. It wasn’t for lack of enjoyment, strength, or grit. Perspectives, priorities, and circumstances can just change when you’re out there. We weren’t regretting anything, and we still don’t, but as we were nearing 2 years onboard, it was time for a sabbatical from our sabbatical. We parted ways with sweet Shonto - our first boat home together, and certainly not our last. A very bittersweet moment & we think of our time with her fondly.
🚚 We packed up what little belongings we had and went north in search of an Annapolis home, hurricane free waters, and more boats! We’re now both on local ⛵️ race teams and there’s schemes for boat #2. We planned to continue producing episodes, but life is busy and it’s difficult to get to. For instance, we’re in month 9 of a mega-beast remodeling project - 😂 we even joked about starting a remodeling channel!
🎥 Speaking of channel, @youtube kinda did us dirty. We were notified our channel was being demonetized for improper viewer activity? We lost our ad revenue and ability to contact a rep, leaving us with no way of understanding what happened or attempt to rectify it. Revenue was never why we were doing it, but it still left us confused, disappointed, and with a bad taste in our mouth for the platform. Creating videos is still a passion and soon we hope to share the rest of the story with you!

So, we may not be liveaboards now, but we’re still sailors, still water lovers. Emerging from our cocoon once again - we’ll pop in more often 😊

The colors of these waters are more than just their being beautiful shades of blue - it's a cruisers way of reading depths. The lighter the shade, the shallower the water. The darker the shade, the deeper the water. If your on a vessel with a deep draft, it's in your best interest to study your gps maps and be on constant look out for water color changes. This picture is a great example of how quickly depths can change. The strong current stemming from either side of the island has created this narrow, deep channel; and it's the only way a boat can cut through the waters. To make matters a little more complicated, the captain will also need to consider that current strength while navigating. Fingers crossed you won't be needing to turn around!⁠

Neither one of us can't think of many better things than being able to watch beautiful creatures in their natural habitats. We were drifting down a river in a remote Cay, using the current to move us, engines off, when we looked below to see so much life bustling beneath us. Baby lemon sharks, an array of reef fish, and this green sea turtle that seemed to drift along with us. 🐢⁠

It's hard to get over just how.blue.this.water.is! The clearest and bluest I had seen was in Shroud Cay, an uninhabited little island. There is one long flowing river running from one end to the other, with such current that you can drift through the entire cay. And when the tide changes, you'll find yourself drifting the other way. Since it is uninhabited, the only way there is by your own boat. Quiet, secluded, and oh so blue.⁠

Somewhere, somewhat in the middle of the Bahamas, there is a sweet little dive spot cleverly named "The Aquarium." An untouched, colorful spot of coral sprouting along the sea floor, with all different kinds of fish swimming within their mazes. One of my favorites being the Parrotfish, one of which we witnessed making some fresh sand (google it). And while you're at it, check out their teeth - sturdy little things that crunch and munch on coral. And if you're enjoying these fishy googles, I also suggest looking up the Sheepshead Fish, particularly their teeth. You're welcome.⁠

Paddling around outside the Rocky Dundas, where the current ⁠- even at near slack tide - is fierce. Ha, we were getting tired just diving about here for just 20 minutes. The ocean floor climbs up to meet a wide, towering rock island, with a swim hole taking you to stalactite filled cavern. We learned after our visit that you can walk in to a large and wide open part of the cavern. How mysterious! I guess we were to busy being beat up my little mini waves inside the cavern to notice any place to crawl out to. Next time!⁠

Each night in Long Island, we were treated to a different celestial show, though two will always stand out in my mind. The first, this night of the full moon - as it rose up over the hills across from the setting sun, the reflecting lights beamed off the water, creating the most ambient pastel color blue water I have ever seen. The second, as we were on the bay riding back to the boat in our dinghy, we saw what I can only describe as an enormous giant fiery meteor falling from the sky above us. It seemed to last forever, and I'm sure we woke up everyone in the anchorage by our dramatic cries of "whoa... look... what IS that???" ⁠
